Prior to this, Rupert held a series of high-profile C-suite roles. From 2022 to 2025, he was Executive Vice President & Chief Legal Officer at UnitedHealth Group – one of the world’s largest healthcare companies – where he initially served as Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary before taking on governance, compliance and security leadership. Earlier, as Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Company Secretary at Reckitt Benckiser (2017–2022), he led global legal, compliance and governance functions for the FTSE 100 consumer health and hygiene group. Rupert previously spent eight years as Group General Counsel at BP (2008–2016), managing worldwide legal responsibilities and playing a central role in crisis response and regulatory engagement in the aftermath of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.

His earlier career included twelve years at GSK, where he advanced to Senior Vice President & General Counsel and served on the Corporate Executive Team with responsibility for legal, corporate security, compliance, ethics and governance. Rupert began his career in private practice with Morrison & Foerster and Lovells, following an academic fellowship at Stanford Law School and legal training at the English Bar.

Alongside his executive career, Rupert has held prominent non-executive roles, including Senior Independent Director and Chair of the Nomination and Governance Committee at Indivior plc, and Vice-Chair of Council at University College School, London. He now contributes strategic oversight across NHS healthcare and education governance bodies.

• Energy and natural resources – leadership in legal, ethics and compliance at scale in complex, high-risk environments

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Law from King’s College, University of Cambridge, and an LLM from Stanford University. Rupert was admitted to the English Bar and the California State Bar and has been recognised among leading global legal and governance professionals.
