Thomas Thune Andersen
Overview
Thomas Thune Andersen is currently Chair of Lloyd’s Register Group and Lloyd’s Register Foundation (since 2012), where he leads one of the world’s most respected maritime and safety institutions, with a focus on ocean sustainability, industrial integrity, and technological foresight. He is also Chair of VKR Holding A/S, a Board Member of BW Group and Cadeler, and Senior Independent Director at IMI plc - roles that reflect his broad oversight across infrastructure, engineering, and clean energy.
From 2016 to 2024, Thomas was Chair of Ørsted A/S, where he supervised the company’s landmark transformation from a fossil-fuel-based utility into a global leader in renewable energy. His tenure is widely recognised for its strategic clarity, board discipline, and acceleration of offshore wind development on the international stage.
Earlier in his career, Thomas spent over three decades at the A.P. Moller–Maersk Group, where he held senior executive positions including President & CEO of Maersk Inc. and CEO of Maersk Oil. These roles gave him deep global operational leadership across shipping, logistics, and upstream energy.
He brings deep cross-sector expertise in:
• Renewable energy & energy transition – stewarding Ørsted’s repositioning and scaling of global offshore wind capacity
• Maritime & industrial services – governing marine classification, risk management, and global infrastructure strategy
• Executive leadership in energy & shipping – managing large-scale, capital-intensive enterprises across global markets
• Cross-sector governance – advising private and listed companies through complex, multi-stakeholder landscapes
Thomas is a member of the Danish Committee on Corporate Governance, a Commissioner at the Energy Transitions Commission, and a Freeman of the City of London. He is widely respected for his steady strategic judgement, institutional stewardship, and ability to lead through complexity – qualities in increasing demand across the evolving energy, maritime, and industrial sectors.
