Overview

Alexis George is one of Australia's most respected financial services leaders, with more than 25 years' experience across banking, wealth management and insurance in Australia, Europe and Asia. She led AMP Limited as Chief Executive Officer from 2021 to 2026, guiding one of Australia's oldest financial institutions through a period of significant transformation. She brings a rare combination of large-scale transformation leadership, deep financial services expertise and a genuine passion for developing people.

After beginning her career at PwC, Alexis spent ten years with ING Group in a series of senior international roles, including CEO of Insurance and Direct Banking for ING Insurance in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, and Regional Chief Operating Officer for ING in Asia, based in Hong Kong, where she was responsible for product, marketing, technology and operations.

Returning to Australia, Alexis spent seven years at ANZ, initially as Group Executive Wealth Australia, where she led the bank’s roughly $4 billion wealth divestment program, including the separation and sale of its life insurance and superannuation businesses to Zurich and IOOF. She was subsequently appointed Deputy Chief Executive Officer, working alongside the CEO on group-wide strategic initiatives and taking responsibility for ANZ’s shared service centres and banking services, including through the turmoil of the Banking Royal Commission.

Alexis guided AMP through a significant transformation that has streamlined the organisation and focused each business on its strongest growth opportunities. She stabilised the business and oversaw the sale of AMP Capital and the Advice business whilst building a customer focused culture. She advanced AMP’s transformation and culture, delivered strategic initiatives to underpin the next phase of growth and built a strong executive team to ensure continued momentum in the business and position AMP for future success.

• Banking, wealth management & insurance – senior executive roles spanning retail and wealth banking, life insurance, superannuation and funds management across Australia, Europe and Asia.

• Business transformation & turnaround leadership – stabilising and rebuilding AMP through a period of significant reputational and financial pressure, and leading ANZ’s multi-billion dollar wealth divestment programme.

• Strategy, operating model design & culture change – recognised expertise in business planning, operating model design and cultural transformation, built across CEO, deputy CEO and group executive roles.

• Board governance – currently a Non-Executive Director of Zurich Australia Limited, Computershare, Cancer Council of NSW and Chairperson of the AMP Foundation.

Alexis describes the most satisfying part of her career as leading teams and watching people grow and progress. Having navigated some of the most difficult periods in Australian financial services, including the Banking Royal Commission and the rebuilding of AMP, she brings genuine authenticity, adaptability and practical insight into leading through sustained pressure and change.

Meet the Mentors

The Original Mentor

Mentoring has its roots in one of the oldest leadership stories. In Homer’s Odyssey, Mentor was entrusted with guiding the young Telemachus while Odysseus was away — not by directing him, but by offering judgement, perspective and wisdom born of experience. This enduring idea of counsel, grounded in trust rather than instruction, remains the essence of mentoring today.

That same tradition sits at the heart of Global Mentors Group today.

We exist to provide leaders with access to seasoned peers who have walked the path before them, offering the clarity, judgement and discretion required to lead at the highest level.
