Tom Glocer
Overview
Tom Glocer currently serves as Independent Lead Director at Merck & Co., Inc. (since 2017) where he chairs the Governance Committee and sits on the Compensation & Management Development Committee. He is also Lead Independent Director at Morgan Stanley, an Independent Director at Publicis Groupe and The Cleveland Clinic, and a member of the Legal AI Committee at Nomos AI Inc, reflecting his broad influence across the finance, media, healthcare, and technology sectors.
Having begun his career in law and M&A, Tom took an unconventional path to corporate leadership, transitioning from managing a law firm to becoming a senior executive, joining Reuters in 1993. He became CEO of Reuters Group plc (2001-2008), and then CEO of Thomson Reuters (2008-2011), where he guided its digital transformation, led high-profile strategic divestments, and steered an IPO during the creation of the combined entity.
In 2012, he co‑founded and currently serves as Executive Chair of BlueVoyant, a cyber‑defence pioneer, and Capitolis, an innovative capital‑markets SaaS platform. He is also a Partner at Communitas Capital, and through Angelic Ventures LP has invested across fintech, healthcare, AI, and big data.
He brings deep cross-sector expertise in:
• Global tech & cyber security – founding cyber‑defence and fintech platforms, bridging enterprise risk and data systems
• Capital markets & financial regulation – advising on governance within regulated industries at leading institutions
• Digital transformation & data strategy – leading legacy-to-digital transitions at Reuters; building data-first boardrooms
A graduate of Columbia (BA) and Yale Law (JD), Tom brings an approach defined by “a light managerial touch, zero tolerance for bad behaviour … [and] a culture of respect”.
