Featured in Semafor on the Rise of Structured CEO Mentoring

Global Mentors Group was recently featured in Semafor, exploring why CEOs are turning to structured, confidential mentoring for support at top.

Global Mentors Group News, Leadership & Mentoring

In May, Global Mentors Group was featured in a Semafor article by Andrew Edgecliffe-Johnson, looking at why more chief executives are choosing structured, confidential mentoring over informal peer networks.

The piece profiles the mentoring relationship between Cognizant CEO Ravi Kumar S and Paula Rosput Reynolds, the two-time CEO who now chairs National Grid, and one of Global Mentors Group’s mentors. As Kumar puts it, “you’re looking for somebody you can work with where you have psychological safety.”

Reynolds points to a different benefit: the discipline a mentor brings before an idea ever reaches the board, giving CEOs a low-stakes space to pressure-test their thinking.

Our Group Managing Director, Sara Parker, spoke to Semafor about the wider shift behind these relationships as companies invest more seriously in leadership development, demand for this kind of structured, confidential support at the top is growing.

The Original Mentor

Mentoring has its roots in one of the oldest leadership stories. In Homer’s Odyssey, Mentor was entrusted with guiding the young Telemachus while Odysseus was away — not by directing him, but by offering judgement, perspective and wisdom born of experience. This enduring idea of counsel, grounded in trust rather than instruction, remains the essence of mentoring today.

That same tradition sits at the heart of Global Mentors Group today.

We exist to provide leaders with access to seasoned peers who have walked the path before them, offering the clarity, judgement and discretion required to lead at the highest level.
