Overview

Craig Dunn is an experienced financial services leader and Chair with a track record of leading major organisations through growth, transformation and regulatory change. Across a career spanning executive and non-executive roles, he has built and reshaped businesses, led complex mergers and integrations, and worked closely with regulators in multiple jurisdictions. He is currently Non-Executive Director at Lion and Chair of Telstra, Acenda (formerly MLC Life Insurance), Redkite and Global Mentors Group, ANZ Pty Ltd, and is recognised for his ability to lead successful change while developing people and culture.

Craig began his career at KPMG, undertaking assignments in Amsterdam and Indonesia, which provided an early grounding in international business and governance. As CEO and Managing Director of AMP Limited between 2008 and 2013, Craig led Australia’s largest non-bank financial institution through the global financial crisis and subsequent waves of regulatory reform. He built the group’s international presence, successfully led the acquisition and integration of AXA Australia, strengthened customer orientation and drove cultural change, particularly in talent development and gender diversity.

Before this, he spent five years as Managing Director of AMP Financial Services and held a series of senior roles at AMP, including Head of Group Strategy and M&A and Managing Director of AMP Bank. His earlier executive career included serving as CEO of a Malaysian-based insurance company, a joint venture of Colonial Limited, giving him first-hand experience of leading in emerging markets and cross-border partnerships.

Over time, he has taken on a range of board roles and is now an experienced Non-Executive Director of major Australian companies and not-for-profits. This breadth of governance exposure means he brings invaluable insight to executives who report to boards and operate under intense scrutiny from stakeholders.

Craig brings deep cross-sector expertise in:

• Banking, insurance & wealth management – leading large, regulated financial institutions through crisis, acquisition and regulatory change.

• Strategy, M&A & business integration – shaping group strategy, executing major deals and integrating complex businesses to create long-term value.

• Board leadership & governance – chairing listed companies and not-for-profits, and working at the interface of boards, regulators, investors and management.

• Leadership development & CEO transition – supporting senior executives, including first-time CEOs, through step-ups in scope, complexity and public accountability.

Throughout his career, Craig has worked closely with his own mentor and is known for an unusually empathetic and grounded mentoring style. He has a strong reputation for developing people and helping leaders navigate critical transitions, including the step from divisional to group CEO. He combines extensive technical and commercial experience with humility, clear challenge and practical support, enabling those he mentors to benefit from his expertise in ways that are both compelling and accessible.

Meet the Mentors

The Original Mentor

Mentoring has its roots in one of the oldest leadership stories. In Homer’s Odyssey, Mentor was entrusted with guiding the young Telemachus while Odysseus was away — not by directing him, but by offering judgement, perspective and wisdom born of experience. This enduring idea of counsel, grounded in trust rather than instruction, remains the essence of mentoring today.

That same tradition sits at the heart of Global Mentors Group today.

We exist to provide leaders with access to seasoned peers who have walked the path before them, offering the clarity, judgement and discretion required to lead at the highest level.
