Overview

David Harris is an experienced global law firm leader, adviser and mentor who has spent more than three decades at the top of the professional services sector. A former Co-CEO and Managing Partner of Hogan Lovells, he led the firm through a significant period of change and international expansion, steering it from a leading UK based international practice into one of the world’s major global law firms.

Since retiring from Hogan Lovells, David has been a Non-Executive Board Member of Eversheds Sutherland International; a Board Adviser to British Parasnowsport; a member of Mosaic’s London and South East Regional Leadership Group, having previously been a member of the International Advisory Panel, prior to the Charity’s transfer to the Prince’s Trust; Chair of the Finance and Estates Committee and a member of the Board of Governors of an independent girls school. He has undertaken business mentoring mainly in the banking and industrials sectors and executive coaching to senior members of professional services firms and in the charity sector.

David spent 32 years at Hogan Lovells, 28 of them as a partner, before retiring in 2014. As Co-CEO and Managing Partner for nearly 10 years, he devised and implemented the strategy for the largest transatlantic merger ever undertaken in the legal sector, creating Hogan Lovells. Under his leadership the firm saw marked improvements in business performance, a transformed approach to business development and client relationship management, and a significantly enhanced market profile. In recognition of his impact, he received Management Partner of the Year from Legal Business and Partner of the Year from The Lawyer following the merger.

Before moving into full-time management, David was a capital markets partner specialising in structured finance, giving him a strong grounding in complex transactions, risk, and client advocacy that continued to inform his leadership approach. Alongside his firm roles he has maintained a long-standing commitment to diversity, championing gender diversity initiatives and mentoring lawyers and business services professionals at key points in their careers. He continues to support social mobility and opportunity through his membership of the London and South East Regional Leadership Group of Mosaic, part of the Prince’s Trust.

David brings deep cross-sector expertise in:

• Global law firm leadership & strategy – leading Hogan Lovells as Co-CEO and Managing Partner through significant growth and expansion, globalisation and structural change.

• Mergers, integration & performance transformation – designing and delivering one of the legal sector’s largest transatlantic mergers and improving firm-wide performance and profile.

• Business development & client relationship management – reshaping approaches to BD, key clients and market positioning in a highly competitive sector.

• Diversity, talent & mentoring – long-term advocacy for gender diversity and inclusive cultures, and deep experience mentoring [lawyers and]]senior executives and professionals.

Meet the Mentors

The Original Mentor

Mentoring has its roots in one of the oldest leadership stories. In Homer’s Odyssey, Mentor was entrusted with guiding the young Telemachus while Odysseus was away — not by directing him, but by offering judgement, perspective and wisdom born of experience. This enduring idea of counsel, grounded in trust rather than instruction, remains the essence of mentoring today.

That same tradition sits at the heart of Global Mentors Group today.

We exist to provide leaders with access to seasoned peers who have walked the path before them, offering the clarity, judgement and discretion required to lead at the highest level.
