David Lamont
Overview
David is an accomplished Non-Executive Director with extensive experience across mining, resources, energy infrastructure and manufacturing. Over more than 30 years in global finance and leadership roles, he has built a reputation for clear strategic thinking, disciplined capital management and an ability to drive performance and culture in large, complex organisations.
David was BHP’s CFO from 2020 to 2024, overseeing financial strategy, capital allocation and market engagement for one of the world’s leading resources companies. Prior to that, he was CFO of CSL Limited from 2015 to 2020, supporting the global growth of the ASX-listed biotech group. Earlier in his career he served as CFO and Executive Director at Minerals and Metals Group and held CFO roles at OZ Minerals Limited, PaperlinX Limited and Incitec Limited. Across these roles he developed deep expertise in capital management, project risk assessment, cost management and debt and equity capital markets.
He now holds a portfolio of board and advisory roles. David is a Non-Executive Director of Telstra (appointed December 2024), where he is Chair of the Audit Committee and a member of the Risk and Sustainability Committee and the Nomination Committee. He is also a Director of Epworth HealthCare (from 2026), APA Group (from 2024), the Financial Executives Institute of Australia (since 2013) and the Geelong Cats Foundation (since 2021).
David brings deep cross-sector expertise in:
• Global CFO leadership & capital management – steering finance functions in major ASX-listed companies through growth, transformation and market volatility.
• Mining, resources & industrials – operating at scale in capital-intensive, project-driven and cyclical sectors, with a sharp focus on risk, returns and cost discipline.
• Governance, audit & risk oversight – chairing and serving on audit, risk, sustainability and nomination committees across complex, regulated businesses.
• Performance, culture & leadership development – using critical thinking, coaching and values-based leadership to improve enterprise performance and build strong management teams.
David is known for delivering high performance through critical thinking, strong culture and personal leadership. He has a track record of redefining strategy, identifying the key value and management drivers in a business and significantly improving financial results. He is accustomed to balancing the needs of internal and external stakeholders – boards, investors, lenders, regulators and employees – in large, complex and often cyclical industries.
