Helge serves as an Independent Director at Belron Group SA and P/F Tjaldur, and isan Operating Partner with Clayton, Dubilier & Rice. In addition, he is a Trustee of the International Crisis Group.

Helge was previously Chair of BP plc from 2019 until 2025 and has served as a Non-Executive Director of Schlumberger, adding upstream and services-sector insight to one of the world’s largest oilfield technology providers. He was also Chair of Novo Nordisk, a global pharmaceutical and life sciences company, and an Independent Director at Nokia OYJ and Shtokman Development AG.

Prior to his CEO role at Equinor, Helge was CEO at Aker Kværner and BG Group. He had executive positions in Aker RGI ASA, an industrial holding company, and Nycomed Pharma AS, an industrial group with business activities in pharmaceuticals and energy. He was a Consultant for McKinsey & Co., and a Political Adviser to the parliamentary group of the Conservative Party in Norway.

He brings deep cross-sector expertise in:

Helge has a degree in economics from the Norwegian School of Economics (NHH) and an MBA from INSEAD.

Throughout his career, he has demonstrated a calm, principle-driven leadership style and a talent for navigating high-stakes environments. As a mentor, he brings a steady hand, cross-sector fluency, and a long-term perspective shaped by decades of executive decision-making and global governance.
