Overview

Lynn Laverty Elsenhans currently serves as a Non-Executive Director of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) (since 2024) and Saudi Aramco (since 2018). She was previously a Non-Executive Director at GlaxoSmithKline plc, Independent Director at Baker Hughes Co., and Flowserve Corporation.

In 2008, as Chair, President & CEO of Sunoco, Inc. and Sunoco Logistics Partners LLC (2008-2012), she became the first woman to lead a major U.S. oil company. She drove a decisive strategic pivot: exiting refinery operations, focusing on high-return logistics and fuel marketing, and orchestrating a successful corporate simplification and recovery of shareholder value.

She is widely recognised for her pioneering 28-year tenure at Royal Dutch Shell, including leadership roles as Executive Vice President of Shell Downstream Global Manufacturing, President & CEO of Shell Oil Products USA, and Regional CEO for Asia Pacific & Middle East — positions in which she oversaw refining, petrochemicals, logistics and large-scale operations across North America, Europe, and Asia.

She brings deep cross-sector expertise in:

• Energy & industrial operational leadership – leading global refining, petrochemical, and logistics platforms with rigour and systems discipline

• Strategic transformation & divestiture – directing major portfolio realignment at Sunoco and Shell under complex market environments

• Board governance & risk oversight – Serving on high-profile international boards spanning energy, engineering, life sciences and downstream manufacturing

• Governance in emerging markets – navigating new roles with Saudi Aramco and TSMC, combining governance expertise with cross-border insight

Educated in Applied Mathematics (Rice University) and holding an MBA from Harvard Business School, Lynn is renowned for her bold leadership, disciplined execution, and capacity to guide complex organisations through technological, environmental, and strategic change.

Meet the Mentors

The Original Mentor

Mentoring has its roots in one of the oldest leadership stories. In Homer’s Odyssey, Mentor was entrusted with guiding the young Telemachus while Odysseus was away — not by directing him, but by offering judgement, perspective and wisdom born of experience. This enduring idea of counsel, grounded in trust rather than instruction, remains the essence of mentoring today.

That same tradition sits at the heart of Global Mentors Group today.

We exist to provide leaders with access to seasoned peers who have walked the path before them, offering the clarity, judgement and discretion required to lead at the highest level.
