Monique was Chair and CEO of Desjardins Group (2008-2016) – Canada’s foremost co‑operative financial services provider—leading the organisation to unprecedented strength. The Group ranked among the five strongest financial institutions worldwide under her leadership.

She then served as Chair of Investissement Québec (2016-2020) and was appointed Chair of Canada’s Industry Strategy Council by the federal Minister of Innovation. Earlier, Monique enjoyed a distinguished executive career: she was a Partner at Ernst & Young (1988-1995), SVP Finance at Royal Bank of Canada, COO at Quebecor, and CFO of Desjardins (2004-2008) She also served as President of the International Cooperative Alliance (2013-2017), championing global cooperative finance.

She brings deep cross-sector expertise in:

• Cooperative & financial governance – leading Desjardins to global financial prominence through a co‑operative structure

• ESG, CSR & sustainability strategy – chairing Michelin’s CSR Committee and guiding national sustainability platforms

• Global public-private collaboration – chairing government advisory councils and contributing to G7 taskforces on industry impact

• Board stewardship & audit oversight – chairing committees in CAC-listed boards and advising on governance alignment

Educated in accounting at Université du Québec à Chicoutimi, she became one of Canada’s first female EY partners. She is a Companion of the Order of Canada (2024), Officer of the Ordre national du Québec, Chevalier of the Légion d’honneur (France), and recipient of the Woodrow Wilson Award—honours recognising both business leadership and social impact.
