Overview

Sir Roger Carr is the Chair of Global Mentors Group which provides world-class mentoring, enabling leaders to take on the most challenging leadership roles globally. He is an Executive Adviser to Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. LP, and is a Visiting Fellow of the Saïd Business School, University of Oxford.

Sir Roger most recently served as Chair of BAE Systems plc (2014–2023), one of the world’s leading defence, aerospace and security companies. He was previously Chair of Centrica plc, Cadbury plc, Chubb plc, Mitchells & Butlers plc and Thames Water plc. Earlier in his executive career, he was Chief Executive of Williams plc.

His other notable roles include Vice Chair of the BBC Trust, Deputy Chair and Senior Independent Non-Executive Director of the Court of the Bank of England, and President of the Confederation of British Industry. He has also served as Chair of the English National Ballet and as Vice President of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity.

Mentoring has its roots in one of the oldest leadership stories. In Homer’s Odyssey, Mentor was entrusted with guiding the young Telemachus while Odysseus was away — not by directing him, but by offering judgement, perspective and wisdom born of experience. This enduring idea of counsel, grounded in trust rather than instruction, remains the essence of mentoring today.
